SUSPECTED: Advocate for Fair Lending

ORDERED INACTIVE! Mark A. Shoemaker has been ordered inactive by the California State Bar Association effective March 31, 2010. Truly a just result.  See the current status and update at his bar license: http://members.calbar.ca.gov/search/member_detail.aspx?x=134828. Mr. Shoemaker was fairly upset at this post when we stated back in October 2009 that “I would keep an eye out on his bar page because it is likely inevitable that this person’s license will be either suspended or revoked fairly soon.”

===================

Summary: Being investigated by the State Bar Association, AG Named company in list of companies not registered with the attorney general; likely operating illegally.

Description: Mark Shoemaker, Esq., Bar No. 134828, Advocate for Fair Lending, Long Beach; I would keep an eye out on his bar page because it is likely inevitable that this person’s license will be either suspended or revoked fairly soon.  This company has been operating for quite a while.  The company reports not to be a law firm yet they are providing legal services and not licensed by the DRE.  Furthermore, they think by having their clients sign a power of attorney this will cover them.  Of course, Mr. Shoemaker advertises himself to be the lead counsel and president of Advocate for Fair Lending.  The state bar is likely investigating Shoemaker’s involvement with the assistance of the unauthorized practice of law and a number of other ethical concerns.

Advocates for Fair Lending has an “F” rating on the BBB website.  Mark A. Shoemaker has been nominated by the EEBA (Evil Esquire Bar Association)

UPDATE (October 15): We are receiving calls from Advocate for Fair Lending clients which inform us that their offices are closed and not receiving any calls.  Their website also seems to be down.  As you know, this is usually a sign of government involvement or orders and we should suspect some public information to come out very soon.

UPDATE 2 (November 10, 2009): Pasha Law received a letter form Mark Shoemaker and Advocates for Fair Lending which asked us to cease and desist our “intentional malicious defamatory material.”

On another note, it is alleged that http://www.myhomeadvocate.com/ is part of the same operation.

UPDATE 3 (May 29, 2010): If you are a homeowner who has been scammed, contact Brown’s office at 1-800-952-5225 or file a complaint online at: www.ag.ca.gov/consumers/general.php.

  1. I EXPECT nothing to be done. Again, the consumer loses. Thanks CalBAR.
